The Financial Times this week reported that Nintendo Co. rejected camera-based technology for motion control implementation in the Wii console. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said the company developed games controlled by camera-based sensors but received better results using accelerometers eventually utilized in the Wii hardware. Microsoft Corp.'s Project Natal for the Xbox 360 and Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 both utilize camera technology to track gesture and movement-based controls in a three-dimensional space.

E3 is approaching, and it's time for predictions to start. Gamasutra reports that during a financial results call, THQ CEO Brian Farrell made some of his own. He claimed that while he doesn't expect a PlayStation 3 price cut at the big event, he does see one coming later in the year. He also pointed out that he doesn't have any inside information from the company. "The right people to ask about prices there are Sony," he said.

There are plenty of games coming to the Playstation 3, but only a handful will rise above all others, excelling the PS3 forward in this year ahead. Some characters will fade not long after their showpiece title comes out, but who will remain strong? At the moment, the game is still being said to come in 2009. Near the top of heroes that will help the PS3 will be the God of War himself, Kratos. This will be his first appearance in the next-gen and his newest adventure looks to be even more epic this time around.

Which has the best games, PS3 or Xbox 360? Don’t answer that, we could still be arguing about it for literally decades. The analysts at Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) reckon they’ve got the solution though, courtesy of Metacritic and a bit of careful number crunching. Their research shows that overall 17% of PS3 games are rated at 85/100 or higher, while Xbox 360 has to make do with 13%. So there you go. At the other end of the spectrum, Sony is also leading. Just 30% of PS3 games are rated as 65 or lower, while its 38% for Xbox 360.

As you already know, last week was a significant milestone for the Playstation Store, in that the Asian shopfronts for Sony’s digital distribution service were granted the addition of Final Fantasy VII. Western users were not so lucky. It would appear that Sony Japan has decided to twist the knife this week. Not even seven whole days after Squaresoft’s PS1 magnum opus was released, another classic RPG joins it on the PS Store - this week, it’s Grandia. Best known for its intuitive battle system and its status as one of the earlier PS1 RPGs to feature voice acting.

You know, we either [port the game to console] or we continue creating new applications on the PC or we kind of go into the handheld arena. I can't specifically say what the plans are right now, but really all these things are measured against each other. We can't do everything at once, so we have to say, 'What platforms would it kind of evolve the fastest on?' So you can sort of look at a straight port to the PS3 and Xbox 360 and basically have the same game we have on the PC... or we could say, 'What can we do on this platform that will help us explore different parts of the design?

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel has been available for the PC for a awhile, and recently Ascaron and publisher cdv Software announced that the Xbox 360 version of the game had gone gold. Now we can call it a trio because the PS3 version of the game has gone gold and will be in stores May 12. Sure, the console versions of the game have basically put the company in debt up to its ears, but hopefully it will have been worth all the risks, hard work and sacrifice.

For years, the videogame quiz show known as Buzz! has been kicking ass on the PlayStation 2. With simple peripheral buzzers that give you that TV-show feel, clever quiz games that have you hurling pies and screwing over your friends, and a wealth of questions firmly grounded in the realm of pop culture, Buzz has made a place for itself in living rooms across the world. The new game is called Fallout: New Vegas and is scheduled to come out sometime in 2010 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. According to Bethesda, Obsidian will be handling the programming this time around. For those not in the know, some of the developers at Obsidian formerly worked at Black Isle on the original Fallout games. So, what does this mean? Well, it sounds like the game will likely use the Fallout 3 graphics engine, but will be helmed by some of the original Fallout team, which could mean some interesting story choices.

Through February, video game sales in the U.S. were tracking ahead 11 percent. Oh what a difference a month makes. In one fell swoop, March wiped out the gains the industry enjoyed in the first two months. Total sales declined 17 percent to $1.43 billion (a slight sequential decline from February too), and first-quarter sales (at $4.25 billion) are now flat for 2009 as a result. "While it might be tempting to jump to the conclusion that the sky is starting to fall on the video games industry given this months results.
