The Financial Times this week reported that Nintendo Co. rejected camera-based technology for motion control implementation in the Wii console. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said the company developed games controlled by camera-based sensors but received better results using accelerometers eventually utilized in the Wii hardware. Microsoft Corp.'s Project Natal for the Xbox 360 and Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 both utilize camera technology to track gesture and movement-based controls in a three-dimensional space.

Fans clamored for it and Capcom is delivering. Yes, folks, Marvel vs Capcom 2 is for real and will be playable in less than two days on Playstation 3. The MVC2 demo will be exclusive to PSN and available for free download this Thursday. No gimmicks or pre-orders required. It's a straight up download that won't cost you a cent. Xbox 360 owners won't get a demo (yet, at least) but will get to experience the full game this summer when it releases simultaneously with the PS3 version.

The Gadget: Datel Wildfire, the first third-party PlayStation 3 controller to support a combination of Bluetooth, rumble and tilt sensitivity. The Price: $40 The Verdict: Even at $10 less than Sony's Dual Shock 3, the Datel Wildfire is a pass. The controller actually feels decent in your hand, with an interesting pistol-like contour and a useful rubber texture. And its build quality is decent—it doesn't feel cheaper than a Dual Shock or SIXAXIS.

Licensed games don't have the best reputation, and for good reason. Glancing at the shelves of your local game retailer will reveal a tsunami of limp and lazy shovelware made to promote the latest movies and television shows. More recently however, a handful of developers have eschewed the usual limitations associated with the creation of licensed games to produce titles which enhance their respective franchises instead of leaning on them. Starbreeze Studios' 2007 take on The Darkness proved that an existing license could be crafted into a highly atmospheric and exhilarating game that stands up on its own merits.

The "reverse bear trap," a diabolical metal mask that will slice your head off unless you figure out a way to disable it, is the first nightmare you will encounter in the Saw videogame. I tried out a few minutes of the third-person adventure game, scheduled for release this fall on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, at Konami's recent Gamers' Night event here. Saw's developer says the game is meant to induce the same sense of panic that the popular horror films do.

Following the weekend 50% off discount deal from Galaga Legions, Amazon.com is now offering several more Xbox LIVE Arcade games at a lower price than the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Doom is currently listed for $2.97 (41% less than on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace), and Pac-Man Championship Edition is currently listed for $4.97 (50% less than the Xbox LIVE Marketplace). Those are two great Xbox LIVE Arcade games. The previous Galaga Legions deal was only available for a couple of days, so move on these soon. They may not be available for that price for long!

I am finally reviewing the game which has been taking up almost all of my spare time for the past month - Unreal Tournament 3. Having missed the game completely when it first came out (even though I was a fan of the original on both the PC and Dreamcast), I was finally persuaded to take the plunge by the promise of a much-needed update adding Trophies and splitscreen, and by the addition of the Titan Pack.

Maybe it was that snazzy commercial or those poor souls who confused it with Dead Space, but Killzone 2 has set a sales record, becoming the fastest first-party PS3 title to reach 500,000 units sold. Scott Steinberg, VP of Product Marketing at SCEA, added that the game is the highest-selling SCEA PS3 title for the first 30 days out of launch, saying the company was "extremely happy with the results." Now, let the comment debate over why Killzone 2 should have sold more (or less) commence!

Braid is a puzzle-platformer, drawn in a painterly style, where you can manipulate the flow of time in strange and unusual ways. From a house in the city, journey to a series of worlds and solve puzzles to rescue an abducted princess. In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, and it is time’s strangeness that creates the puzzles. The time behaviors include: the ability to rewind, objects that are immune to being rewound, time that is tied to space, parallel realities, time dilation, and perhaps more.

2D fighter fans, rejoice! It’s not been officially announced as of yet, but it would appear that PS3/360 2D fighter BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is launching this July; and that’s not all! Not only is the game coming to America surprisingly close to its Japanese release date (this June), it’s also getting its own personalized HORI fighting sticks for Playstation 3 and XBOX 360. While most diehards likely bought a stick to go with Street Fighter IV, those who prefer Arc System Works’ fighters may want to go with this stick instead, as its button setup is better suited for BlazBlue.
